The Most Precise Way To Set Your Volume
As anyone who spends any time with Brain Shift Radio (or any Rhythmic Entrainment Intervention recording) will tell you, setting the optimal volume is critical to the success of this technology.
Because setting the volume is dependent on several facets – including your device, speakers, how far you are from your player, your goals and track choices, your tolerance to the music, to name a few – we recommend following our basic guideline of turning on a track then dialing the volume all the way off and then turning it up until you can barely hear the rhythms. Then tweak from there. Before too long you’ll find a general range that works for you.
Some people, however, find this process a little imprecise and prefer to have a more concrete way of getting a good volume. If you are one of these people then your best bet is to use a Decibel meter (also called a Sound Level Meter or Sound Pressure Level – SPL – meter). You can find many options for under $30-40 and even apps for about $2.
If you want to go this route, place the meter the same distance from your speakers as your ear will be and set the volume between 30-40 dBA.
